Rant: I asked a simple question on a forum last week and it blew up into a huge mess

Last week, I posted a question about fixing a leaky faucet in the 'Ask Anything' group. I just wanted a quick tip, you know? By the next day, there were over 50 replies with people arguing about plumbing codes, water pressure, and which city has the hardest water. It got so off topic that the original question was lost. Three years ago, you could ask something here and get a straight answer. Has anyone else seen this happen lately where a simple ask turns into a fight?

Was it the gardening forum for you too? I asked about moving a rose bush last month and got forty comments on soil pH debates, with two people nearly coming to blows over organic versus chemical fertilizer. My poor rose question got buried under a lecture about nitrogen cycles. It feels like every group has to have a big fight now instead of just helping.

I posted a photo of my sad tomato plant on a local group last year, @rivera.susan. Got twenty replies arguing about blight versus overwatering. I just moved the pot to a sunnier spot and it worked. Sometimes you have to ignore the noise and try the simple fix.
