Rant: Client told me my emails were 'too nice' and it totally changed my approach

I had a client back in May, this guy named Dave who runs a small plumbing outfit near Pittsburgh, straight up told me my follow up emails sounded like I was asking for a favor instead of selling a service. He said I used too many soft words like 'just checking in' and 'no pressure' which made me look desperate. Switched to more direct language with clear calls to action and my open rate jumped from 22% to 34% within two weeks. Has anyone else had to totally flip their tone based on feedback?

Yeah, that's fair. Sometimes you don't realize how you sound until someone tells you straight up.

Not really sure it's that deep honestly. Emails are emails, you know? Some people just like a certain style and that's fine. @kevin_sullivan pretty much nailed it though. Sometimes you just need someone to be blunt with you.
