Just realized my neighbor's offhand comment about asking for help flipped a switch for me

We were talking about my stuck garage door and he said, 'You know, the whole point of this street is that someone always knows how to fix it.' I'd been wrestling with it alone for three days. Has anyone else had a simple moment that made you actually use a community like this?

My neighbor once mentioned the library's tool loan program after I bought a cheap wrench. That casual tip saved me fifty bucks and a trip to the store. Sometimes you just need to hear the obvious thing out loud.

My old car's check engine light was on for a month. My coworker Jim walked by, said "Auto parts stores read the codes for free, you know." I felt like a total genius after paying zero dollars for that info.

Auto parts stores usually charge a small fee now, though.
