Floral foam carving sent me to urgent care last month

I took up foam sculpting for wedding centerpieces and got a fine dust cloud so bad I ended up with bronchitis-like symptoms for two weeks straight, the doctor at the clinic in Portland told me to wear a respirator mask even for simple cuts. Turns out the green bricks release particles that are nasty on the lungs, so now I carve outside with a fan blowing away from me. Anyone else had a health scare from a 'harmless' craft supply?
