Unpopular opinion: a retired librarian in Dayton showed me how to search old newspapers and Google looks silly next to her
Last month a customer's grandma was waiting on her oil change and started chatting about how she used to run the reference desk at the Dayton library for 30 years. She asked what I do when I need old info online and I said I just Google it, and she laughed and said "honey, your search box is skipping the whole back room." She pulled up a free newspaper archive site on her phone and found a 1968 article about my shop's address in about 90 seconds, while I had spent an hour the night before getting nothing useful. Does anyone have a favorite archive or library database they hit before the regular search engines?
