Counted 14 farmers markets inside the Beltway and only 3 sold actual local produce
Spent a Saturday morning driving to every market I could find near Arlington and started asking each vendor where their stuff was grown. Turns out most of the "market" stalls were reselling the same wholesale boxes, and only 3 could tell me a farm name in Virginia. Is there a map or list somewhere that flags which ones are truly grower-run?
Ran into the same thing at the Courthouse market last summer. Asked a guy behind a big pile of tomatoes which farm they came from and he pointed at a box with a distributor label still on it. Walked two stalls down and a woman sold me squash she grew in Purcellville and even showed me a photo of the field on her phone. Those three you found are probably the real ones, the rest are just grocery stores with tents.
