The field school supervisor in Utah who made me stop and look at pottery shards differently
We were surveying near Moab back in 2018 and I kept walking past broken ceramics, just logging them as sherds. He knelt down, picked one up, and said 'this isn't trash, it's someone's Tuesday dinner plate from 900 years ago.' Has anyone else had a moment where a seasoned archaeologist reframed how you see the ordinary stuff on site?
