Found out only 3% of a T. rex skeleton is actual bone, and the rest is plaster, blew my mind
I was reading a behind the scenes thing on the Tyrannosaurus rex named Sue at the Field Museum in Chicago and it said most museum mounts are mostly casts with just a few real bones on display. It said the real fossils stay in storage because they are too heavy and too valuable to risk, which makes sense but still felt like finding out Santa is not real. So when you all look at a mounted skeleton, how do you figure out which parts are the actual rock and which parts are a copy?
