A museum guide in Athens told me something about bronze tools that I still think about
I was at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens last spring and a guide mentioned that bronze tools were often melted down and reused, which is why we have so few of them compared to stone tools. She said maybe less than one percent of the bronze items ever made survived to today. I had always assumed we dug up lots of old bronze stuff, but it turns out most of it got turned into weapons or coins later on. Does anyone else know if that reuse idea holds up for other regions, or is it mostly a Mediterranean thing?
