Skeptical when a 68 year old climber in Portland told me to ditch my steel core flip line for a rope lanyard, but 8 weeks later my hip stopped aching | Arborists - Pinecone Attack
Switched to a rope lanyard about a year ago and my chiropractor is probably mad about the lost business lol. The steel core just hangs there stiff and yanks on your hip every time you lean back, while a rope one moves with you instead of fighting you. I was the guy calling it a fad too, right up until my lower back stopped screaming at me after a full day in the tree. The old timers know what they're talking about more often than we give them credit for. That said, rope needs way more care since it can get cut or wore out in ways steel won't, so check it every single climb.
