Used to chase every weird noise with a screwdriver, now the phone mic does it in 20 seconds
Back when I ran calls in Akron I would stick a long screwdriver against a bearing housing and press my ear to the handle, which honestly made my neck hurt by Friday. Last month a guy on my route showed me how to record the noise on my phone and play it back at half speed, and suddenly I could hear the bad bearing in a dryer drum that I would have missed ten times over. Now I do the recording before I even pull my pouch off the truck, and the screwdriver stays in the bag unless the customer is standing right there expecting a show. Took me 14 years to change that habit, which is a little embarrassing. Anybody got a cheap app they trust for that, or am I just using the plain voice memo thing forever?
