That 20 year old fridge compressor finally gave up on me Tuesday
I mean, it was a beater unit in a rental I've serviced for ages, and the compressor just seized mid-cycle with no warning. I ended up swapping in a used one from a salvage place for $150, but has anyone else noticed the newer sealed units just don't run as long as the old ones?

Twenty years on a single compressor is nuts (mine barely made it past seven). The old ones were built like tanks with thicker metal and simpler parts, so they just kept going. New sealed units cut every corner to save a buck, and we all pay for it later.
