Swapped from multimeter testing to a thermal camera for compressor checks

I used to spend 10 minutes probing capacitors and windings on every no-cool call. Last spring I picked up a cheap Flir model and now I can spot a failing compressor in 30 seconds by the heat signature. Has anyone else had luck catching hard starts before they fully die?

Man thermal cameras are a total game changer for catching those soft failures before they leave you stranded.

Oh man, you're so right. I got burned (pun intended) by a bad alternator once that was just starting to heat up, and a thermal camera caught it before it fried the whole wiring harness. Makes troubleshooting so much faster too, you can literally watch where the heat's building up instead of guessing with a multimeter for an hour. Now I keep an old Seek Thermal in my tool bag for exactly this kind of thing, saved me from a tow truck more than once.
