Had to decide between a quick fix or a full rebuild on a 15 year old dryer motor
Got a call for a dryer making a grinding noise, turned out to be the main drive motor. The brushes were shot, but the armature was also pretty worn. I could have just swapped the brushes for about $25 and an hour of my time, or replaced the whole motor assembly for $180 and three hours. I went with the full motor swap, even though it cost the customer more. That was six months ago, and they just called me for a different machine, said the dryer's been perfect. Anyone else face a similar choice where the 'right' fix wasn't the cheapest?

Been there, tough call but you made the right one.

Honestly I would have just done the brushes. A lot of times that gets you another few years for a fraction of the cost. If the armature fails later, you can always swap the motor then.

Yeah, sometimes you just gotta go with the full fix to sleep better at night. Been there myself, it's never an easy call.
