Debate: Should we fix appliances that are barely worth the labor or just push for a replacement?
I had this old lady in Bakersfield last month with a fridge that was cycling funny. I figured it was a capacitor or maybe the compressor starting to go. I told her it could be fixed for around $200 but a new one would run $800. She got real quiet and then said 'I just want it cold again, not a lesson on my budget.' That hit me hard. Ever since then I've been torn between saving someone a few bucks and knowing they'll call me back in 6 months when the next part fails. What do you guys do when the math barely works out in the customer's favor? Do you fix it anyway or steer them toward a new unit?

Not a lesson on my budget" means you just fix it.

Right? Just get it done (no budget talk).
