Found a trick at Anime Expo last summer that saved my con experience
I was stuck in a 45-minute line for a popular panel when some stranger showed me the official event app had a live map with wait times, now I always check before choosing which booth to hit first.

Wait times on those maps aren't always live though, they update every 15 or 20 minutes. Saw a few folks at AX last year get burned trusting the map said 10 minutes when it was really more like 30.

Check the app settings though, you can change the refresh rate to update every 5 minutes instead.
