Pro tip: dig out the old point and shoot for a kid's school trip and skip the phone
Last Friday my 9 year old had a field trip to the natural history museum in Indianapolis and I handed her my old Canon point and shoot from 2011 instead of letting her take my phone. I charged the battery overnight and it still held a full charge after sitting in a drawer for maybe 4 years, which honestly surprised me more than it should have. She took about 140 photos and most of them are blurry or of the same dinosaur from 12 angles, but she loved pressing the shutter button and hearing the little fake click sound. The best part was at dinner when we popped the SD card into my laptop and looked at all of them together, no notifications popping up, no apps fighting for attention. It took me a minute to find a card reader since the slot on my laptop is gone, but I dug one out of my cable bin. Now I am thinking about grabbing a couple more of these cheap cameras at thrift stores so both kids can have one. Has anyone found a reliable way to keep these old batteries from swelling when they sit for months?
