DAE still use a Zip drive in 2025 because cloud storage ate my lunch and I am done with it
My dad handed me his old Iomega Zip 100 drive from the garage back in March, and I figured it was junk until I actually plugged it into my XP tower. I had two disks with 94MB each and they loaded my whole tax folder faster than my Google Drive app ever has. Last Tuesday the wifi went out for six hours in my apartment and I just kept working off that Zip drive while my roommate sat there refreshing a spinning circle. The click clack of that disk spinning up is honestly soothing and the thing has not failed me once in four months. Cloud storage keeps pushing me to pay $2.99 a month for 100GB when I already own 188MB of perfectly good magnetic disk space. My wife says I am nuts for trusting a 1998 drive with anything, but she also lost a term paper to a sync error last fall. Has anyone else gone back to physical media for daily stuff, and if so what drive are you still running?
