Roll of Portra 400 came back blank after a whole road trip, how do you handle gear failure?
Drove from Austin to Marfa back in April, shot 36 frames of ranches, diners, and that weird Prada store in the middle of nowhere. Got the scans back and every single frame was just faint orange streaks, my camera's shutter curtain had finally given out after 12 years. I had a backup point and shoot in the glovebox but only used it for 4 shots because I trusted the main body. So here's my debate: do you keep shooting on a camera you know is iffy for the feel, or do you swap to the backup early and risk losing the good glass? I'm leaning toward obsessively testing every body before I leave town now, but that kills the spontaneity. Has anyone else lost a whole roll and still kept using that same camera afterward, or did you retire it on the spot?
