My dog knocked my Yashica into a duck pond in Portland, and the roll inside somehow survived
Last month I took my Yashica FX-3 to Laurelhurst Park in Portland to shoot the ducks with some cheap Fuji 400, and my lab mix Luna decided the ducks looked way too fun to not chase. She yanked the leash, the strap slipped off my wrist, and the whole camera went splash into the pond in front of like 6 people having a picnic. I fished it out with a stick, dried it off with my hoodie, and figured the roll inside was toast. Got the film developed anyway at a shop on Hawthorne, and 22 of the 24 shots came out totally fine, just a little hazy on the edges like some dreamy filter I could never afford. Anybody else had a camera survive something it absolutely should not have?
That splash in front of 6 picnickers at Laurelhurst is exactly the kind of moment where you just want the ground to swallow you up, lol. But 22 out of 24 shots surviving a duck pond dunking is honestly kind of amazing, and that hazy edge thing sounds like a happy accident you could not plan if you tried. Luna probably thinks she did you a favor by adding some artistic flair to the roll. I had a friend drop a point and shoot off a dock once and the water ruined everything, so your Yashica clearly has some kind of pond proof superpower. Sorry your camera took a swim, but at least the photos came back with a story baked right in.
