Just realized I've put 47 rolls of film through my beat up Nikon FM2 since last March and never once thought about the shutter count
I was cleaning out my desk drawer last week and counted 47 rolls I've shot since March, all on the same FM2 I bought used for $180 at a camera show in Pasadena. That's roughly 1,700 frames and the shutter has never hiccuped once. Meanwhile my buddy keeps babying his digital body and worrying about actuations like it's a car lease. Here's the thing though, the number that actually surprised me was 47, not the frame count. 47 rolls means 47 times I chose to load a camera instead of pulling out my phone, and that choice changed how I see. You slow down when a roll costs you $12 with processing. You wait for the light. You don't spray and pray. I'm not saying film makes you a better shooter, but it made ME a more careful one, and that's worth more than any spec sheet. So what's your number, how many rolls have you burned through this year and did it change how you shoot?
