Developed a roll from 1999 I found in a thrifted camera last weekend

Picked up a beat-up Canon EOS at a garage sale in Des Moines for $8. There was already a half-used roll of Kodak Gold inside. Thought it was a goner but figured why not spend the $12 to get it developed at the local lab downtown. Came back with a whole set of photos from someone's high school graduation party at a pool. Weird seeing those kids frozen in time with their flip phones and baggy jeans. Made me realize how much the stuff we shoot now is just digital noise we scroll past. There's something about that gamble of never knowing if you got the shot that film forces on you. Has anyone else ever developed mystery film and gotten something totally unexpected?

Honestly I gotta disagree. I found a mystery roll from a thrifted Minolta back in 2018 and the photos were just blurry shots of someone's backyard grill. Like 24 frames of the same charcoal smoker from weird angles. Spent way more than $12 on processing and got absolutely nothing interesting. I think this whole mystical film thing is overhyped. Most people back then took boring photos of boring stuff just like we do now.
