Bought a 'mint' Canon AE-1 from a flea market for $80. The shutter is completely stuck.

Guy swore it was film tested, but the advance lever won't budge. I'm out the cash and now have a paperweight. Anyone know a decent repair shop in the Cleveland area that won't charge another fortune?

Ugh, flea market camera deals are the worst for this exact reason! That "film tested" line is such a classic scam, they always say that. Honestly, you might be better off just cutting your losses. Even if you find a repair shop, the cost to fix a seized shutter could easily double what you paid. It's a brutal lesson, but sometimes that old gear is just too far gone.

Viola_Cooper62 makes a fair point about repair costs, but some cameras are worth fixing. My old Pentax K1000 had a sticky shutter, and a local shop got it working for less than buying another one. The key is finding a technician who actually knows film gear, not just any camera store. Sometimes that "too far gone" camera just needs the right person to look at it.

Actually finding a good repair person can make that old camera a real bargain in the long run.
