Why does nobody talk about keeping a paper mileage log instead of letting the car app track everything
My car has one of those apps that logs every trip and gas fill up for me, and I used it for about a year until a buddy pointed out that all that data goes straight to the car maker and my insurance company. So back around March I yanked the app off my phone and went to the Dollar Tree in Lansing and got a little spiral notebook for the glove box. Now every time I fill up I write the date, the odometer reading, and the gallons on a line, takes me maybe 20 seconds at the pump. I figured out my actual gas mileage for the first time in my life, and it turns out I was getting way worse numbers than the dashboard claimed, almost 4 miles per gallon off. The notebook also caught a slow leak in my rear tire that no light ever warned me about, just by me noticing the miles per tank creeping down. My wife thinks I am nuts but she has started writing in it too when she borrows the car. Has anyone else gone back to paper for this kind of thing, or am I the only one who does not trust the app anymore?
