Switched to a paper map for a weekend trip and ended up in a ghost town

Last month, I planned a drive through the Blue Ridge Mountains and decided to use a 1990s road atlas instead of my phone's GPS. About an hour in, I missed a turn that wasn't clearly marked and took a long, winding back road. After 20 minutes, I rolled into this tiny, empty town called Copperhill, just a few old buildings and a closed general store. It was quiet and kind of neat, but not where I meant to go. The map got me there, but it also showed me a place I never would have found otherwise. Has anyone else had a trip go totally different because you ditched the digital guide?

Because sometimes you find yourself in the getting lost part.
