Rinsing cast iron with hot water finally clicked after 14 years

I was at my sister's place in Columbus and she just ran her skillet under the tap while it was still warm. I nearly yelled at her, then she showed me the food came right off with a bamboo brush, no soap needed. I'd been letting pans cool and scraping for an hour every Sunday for years.
