Picked spray foam over batts for my attic and regret it
I went with closed cell spray foam thinking it would seal everything better, but now I'm dealing with a roof replacement issue because the foam traps moisture against the decking. Has anyone else had to rip out spray foam after a leak?

I used to be one of those people who swore spray foam was the best thing ever for attics. But then I helped my buddy tear open his roof after a bad leak, and what I saw changed my mind completely. The foam had trapped moisture against the decking and it was just mush underneath, like wet cardboard. All that hype about air sealing doesn't mean anything when you can't see what's happening to the wood. Now I tell everyone to stick with good old fiberglass batts and proper ventilation. I'd rather have a drafty attic than a rotted roof.

My 200 year old farmhouse roof decking rotted out in 3 years after that garbage was sprayed in.
