Showerthought: A customer in a Denver suburb changed how I see wireless sensors.

He said, 'I don't care if it's a bit more work to run wire, I want it to work in 20 years.' That stuck with me. Now I push harder for hardwired contacts on any major renovation. Anyone else have a client make them rethink a standard practice?

Man, that's a perfect example. It's not just about the tech failing, it's about getting locked out of the whole system. That kind of story is why I'm so stubborn about wires now.

My uncle had a wireless alarm system put in his cabin maybe ten years ago. The company went out of business and now the whole thing is useless because the parts can't be replaced. He's stuck rewiring the whole place. That story always makes me lean toward hardwired for anything permanent.
