Serious question, did the $89 Klein voltage tester actually save me or just scare me into wasting cash?
I used to just use a $15 pen tester like everyone else on our crew in Phoenix, but after a near miss on a 240 line I grabbed a Klein NCVT-4 at the supply house. Honestly it has caught two mislabeled breakers on the same panel at a job off Camelback Road, so I guess that's $89 well spent. But my lead guy swears the cheap ones are fine and I'm just paranoid. Anyone else feel like the expensive tester is more peace of mind than actual function?
My cheap pen tester once told me a wire was dead and my arm disagreed real quick, so I get the paranoia. But $89 to catch a mislabeled breaker is way cheaper than a hospital bill or a funeral. Your lead guy can keep his $15 pen, you keep your fingers.
