Warning: a 30-year AP told me to stop torquing by feel, and the number he gave me was 12
I was doing a brake job on a Cessna 172 at our hangar in Boise when an old AP named Walt watched me snug down a caliper bolt and said 'that one's 12 foot pounds, not whatever your wrist says.' I grabbed the torque wrench to prove him wrong and it clicked at about 12, so he was dead on. He told me he learned that lesson in 1988 after a wheel came off a crop duster, and he never let a young mechanic guess again. Any of you keep a cheat sheet of odd torque values you've picked up from the old guys?
