Kept timing mags with a buzz box 'til a guy in Wichita showed me the shower of sparks trick
For 12 years I timed every magneto by ear with a buzz box, and I thought that was just how it was done. Then a guy named Dale at a shop in Wichita watched me do it on a Lycoming O-320 and asked why I was making it so hard. He hooked up a shower of sparks box, and I had both mags dialed in 9 minutes flat, no guessing. Now I won't touch a mag without one, and my start issues on cold mornings went away too. What's the one tool you guys finally broke down and bought after years of doing it the hard way?
