DAE change how they safety wire after watching a guy lose a bolt at the Reno air races?
Honestly I was at the Reno air races back in September helping a crew on a T-6 and watched a veteran mechanic safety wire a whole cowling in maybe four minutes flat. What got me was when he stopped and tugged every single twist with a pair of needle nose before signing off, said he lost an oil door bolt at a race in the 90s and it beat the hell out of the cowling. I'd been doing the pull test but not really leaning on it, just a little tug and move on. Now I do that hard second check on every pigtail and I've caught two loose ones in the last few months that I know I would have walked past before. Tbh it costs me maybe 30 extra seconds per panel and it's already paid off. Curious if anyone else has a specific twist count or pull test they swear by, or if I'm just being paranoid now.
