Switched from basket shaking to flipping halfway through

I've been using an air fryer for about three years now and I always just shook the basket halfway through cooking. It worked fine for fries and nuggets. But last month I was making some chicken thighs and realized the bottoms were getting soggy while the tops were crispy. So I tried actually flipping each piece over with tongs halfway through the cook time. The difference was night and day. Everything came out evenly browned and the texture was way better on both sides. Now I flip everything I make in there. Has anyone else had better results from flipping versus just shaking?

Flipping is the way to go for sure! I had the same exact problem with chicken getting all sad and soggy on one side. Shaking just moves stuff around randomly, but flipping actually lets both sides get that crispy golden crust. My fries come out way better too since I switched to flipping them with tongs. Total game changer for the air fryer.

Oh man @lindaw29 I feel you SO hard on the soggy chicken problem. I tried shaking my breaded pork chops once and they ended up all broken and uneven, it was a MESS. Flipping with tongs is the ONLY way I can get my mozzarella sticks to come out crispy on both sides now. I even flip my frozen fish sticks halfway through and they actually taste like they were deep fried instead of air fried. Its such a simple change but it makes a HUGE difference.
