Thought AI image upscaling was just a filter, then I printed an old photo of my grandpa from 1962
I always figured those AI upscaling tools were just fancy blur and sharpen tricks, you know, the kind that make everything look like plastic. Last month my mom sent me a scanned photo of my grandpa from 1962, and it was rough. Grainy, scratched, and the face was maybe 200 pixels wide at best. I ran it through one of those free online AI upscalers just to mess around, expecting nothing. Twenty seconds later the preview popped up and I actually said 'no way' out loud at my desk. The scratches were gone, the grain was smoothed without smearing, and his eyes had actual detail I could not see before. I printed an 8x10 at the Walgreens on 5th and my mom cried when I showed her. Now I am wondering if this stuff is safe for old family slides or if I am just getting lucky with one good picture. Has anyone here run a whole box of old photos through one of these, and did it hold up or start making stuff up?
