Why does nobody talk about the fact that a pizza ad got me to buy a $70 infrared thermometer
Last month I clicked a Domino's ad just because the tracker showed my pizza was 3 minutes away and I wanted to see if it was real, and buried in the fine print was a promo for a $70 infrared thermometer they use to check oven temps. I don't even bake, but I bought it, and now I've used it to check my grill, my truck brakes after a long haul, and a drafty window in my living room. What's the weirdest thing an ad ever sold you that had nothing to do with the ad itself?
Bought a riding mower once because a mattress company's YouTube ad had a dog riding one around a yard and the actual product link was just shoved in the corner. Sort of the same trick, right, the ad sells you a feeling and the real product sneaks in the side door. But here is the part nobody brings up, that thermometer thing only worked because you were already halfway interested in how stuff works before the ad showed up. Ads don't make people curious, they just point it at something you can buy. Some guy with zero interest in heat or grills would've scrolled right past that fine print and never thought about it again. So the real answer to why nobody talks about it is that it isn't the ad doing the selling, it's you already being the kind of person who has to know why the window is cold.
