That week I clicked 9 ads for mattresses because my back was killing me and now I get 30 a day
Last Tuesday I was lying on my floor at 2am because my mattress felt like a bag of rocks, so I started scrolling on my phone. I saw an ad for one of those purple grid mattresses with a guy pouring wine on it, and I clicked it just to see the price. Then I got a ad for a bed in a box that ships in 3 days, clicked that too. Then a ad for a mattress with a 365 day trial, clicked it. By Friday I had clicked 9 different mattress ads and my feed is now nothing but beds. I swear I saw one ad for a mattress made of recycled ocean plastic. The weird part is I still haven't bought one, I just keep clicking and reading reviews. My girlfriend said I have a problem and maybe she's right. Does anyone else get stuck in a loop like this after one bad night?
Yeah man, the algorithm has you locked in now. The move is to stop clicking the ads and start using private browsing or a different app to research, because every click just feeds the beast. I did this same thing with running shoes last year, clicked like 6 pairs, and my feed was nothing but sneakers for a month. What actually worked was clearing my browser cookies and turning off ad tracking in my phone settings (it's buried in privacy settings somewhere). Also try searching for the thing on a site like reddit instead of google, since those threads don't track you the same way. Give it a week and the mattress ads will dry up, at least until you click one again.
