My buddy said to leave a half-eaten sandwich on my desk for 'composition' in a photo

So I'm in this accidental art group and I posted a picture of my messy desk after a late night working. The lighting was actually kinda cool with the lamp hitting all the papers. This guy I know from another forum comments 'you should leave that leftover turkey sub right there, it adds balance to the frame.' I laughed it off but figured why not. Took another shot with the sandwich in the corner. Honestly it looked like a modern art piece about isolation and bad life choices. My girlfriend came in and said 'why is there a moldy sandwich on your desk?' I didn't eat lunch that day and now I'm wondering if I should start staging more stuff or just take pictures of actual accidents. Has anyone else had someone give you advice that turned your trash into accidental gallery material?

Try setting a timer for a week and shooting the same scene daily, your mileage may vary but decay adds its own story.

Does the decay itself become the main subject after a while, more than the actual scene you started with? I'd bet the changes in lighting and weather end up telling a bigger story than just watching something fall apart slowly. Makes you wonder if we should all try embracing the flaws instead of chasing perfect consistency.
