DAE remember thinking abstract photos were a total scam back in the 90s?
When I was in my 20s I walked through a gallery in Chicago and saw a photo of a rusty oil drum that cost $400, and I laughed at it with my buddy. All I could think was, my kid could snap that on a point and shoot, who pays money for this. Then about 12 years ago I was walking my dog after a rainstorm and saw the puddle by the curb reflecting a flipped stop sign and a red awning, and it stopped me cold. I ran back for my phone and took maybe 40 shots of that puddle, and one of them is still hanging in my hallway today. Now half the stuff in my camera roll is close ups of cracked paint and wet concrete and I cannot walk past a good puddle without stopping. So was I just too young to see it, or did I have to take my own bad photo first to get it? What everyday thing caught your eye that you used to think was nothing?
