I found a dead 2003 fan forum by guessing the URL wrong, and now I'm not sure I should share the trick
Typing the wrong year into an old Angelfire address dropped me into a wrestling fan board that stopped posting in 2004 but still loads, guestbook and all. Part of me wants to post the method so others can dig up their own ghost sites, but a bigger part worries that traffic will kill the last few that still work. Would you share the trick or keep it quiet?
The part about "a bigger part worries that traffic will kill the last few that still work" is what gets me, because I used to be all for posting stuff like this everywhere. My old take was that old sites are already dead, so who cares, share the link and let people enjoy them. Then a guy I knew posted a working 90s message board to a big sub and it got hugged to death in like two days, bots crawled the guestbook and filled it with junk, and the owner's kid actually showed up asking people to stop. That changed my mind. These places survived because nobody knows about them, and a lot of them run on old free hosting that folds the second it gets real traffic. So yeah, keep the trick to yourself or only tell one or two people you trust, and let the ghost sites stay ghosts.
