People keep saying the web was all text in the 90s, but I had a 14.4k modem and a whole folder of downloaded pixel art

I was cleaning out my old hard drive and found a folder called 'WEBART' from 1997. It was full of tiny GIFs, like dancing hamsters and flaming email icons, that took forever to load. My friend said the early web was just plain text, but I remember spending hours on sites like The Spiral Graveyard just to see the new graphics. Anyone else have a stash of those old web graphics they saved?

Honestly a 14.4k modem for pixel art is wild. Tbh my 28.8 felt like torture waiting for those under construction gifs to load. You must have had the patience of a saint. That spiral graveyard site was a total trip, I forgot all about that place.
