My cousin showed me a site called rotten dot com in a Miami library and I still check my browser history to this day
I was 14 and visiting my cousin in Miami over summer break in 1998. We went to the public library on Flagler Street so he could check his email, and he whispered for me to come look at his screen. He typed in a web address I had never heard of and suddenly there were pictures on there I can't ever unsee. The librarian walked by about 30 seconds later and he slammed the monitor off so fast the whole desk shook. She just gave us a look and kept going, but my heart was pounding for like 10 minutes. That was the moment I learned the web had stuff on it that nobody warned you about. After that I got weird about clicking any link anyone sent me, even from friends. To this day I clear my history like it's a nervous habit. Did any of you get burned by a link like that back in the dial up days, and did it make you paranoid too?
