Rant: The wait for that city tree permit nearly drove me nuts

I had a client with a huge pine leaning over their garage. It was clearly a risk, so we agreed to remove it. I sent in the permit application right away in March. They told me it would be quick, but I didn't hear back for over two months. I kept checking in, and each time they said it was still being processed. We had a windy spell in April, and I was just hoping the tree would hold on. By the time approval came, my summer calendar was already packed tight.
