My kid asked why my hands are always dirty after work

Was washing up last night and my 6 year old pointed at my stained fingers and said 'daddy, your hands tell stories'. I always just saw it as grime to scrub off. But she's right, each burn scar and metal stain is from a specific pour or mold fix. That grayish tint on my thumb? That's from the big aluminum job we ran three weeks ago. Made me look at my gear in a new way too. Anyone else have a moment that made you see the job's marks differently?

That's such a cool way for your kid to see it! My hands just tell the story of me being a total klutz in the kitchen, all grease stains and little knife nicks from trying to chop veggies too fast. Your daughter's comment is way more poetic than my reality. It really does make you think about the marks we collect, even the silly ones.

My hands just tell the story of my losing battle with a leaky pen.
