A weird thing at the gas station on Elm and 5th made me double-check everything now

I was filling up my car at the QuickStop on Elm Street yesterday afternoon, and the pump screen showed my total as exactly $0.00 after I finished. The attendant inside said his system showed a normal charge, but my card never got a hold or a receipt. It felt like a glitch in reality. Has anyone had a payment just vanish like that at a pump before?

Yeah @grayt46, these payment glitches feel like part of a bigger system breakdown we see everywhere now.

That exact thing happened to me at the Shell on Route 9 last winter. The pump just clicked off and the screen went blank, like I never even swiped my card. My bank app showed nothing for two whole days, then the charge just popped up. Makes you wonder what kind of computer ghost is running those pumps, you know?

Oh man, that "computer ghost" thing is exactly how I describe it too! It's like the pump has its own little brain that decides when to actually process payments. My theory is those old gas station systems are running on some ancient software held together with duct tape and good intentions.
