Old timer told me to stop using WD-40 on door tracks

Guy named Frank from Local 3 in Chicago said use dry silicone spray instead. Ignored him for two years. Finally tried it and now my doors slide smoother than ever. Anyone else had a senior guy tell you something obvious that actually worked?

Frank from Local 3 knows what he's talking about man. I used WD-40 on my sliding glass door for like five years and it always got sticky again in a month. Finally grabbed a can of CRC dry silicone on sale at Ace Hardware and it's been smooth for almost a year now. That old guy was right about the sticky residue too. WD-40 leaves a film that traps dust and dirt over time. Dry silicone doesn't collect anything. Plain and simple.

Does WD-40 even have a real purpose beyond being a temporary fix for everything? I swear people treat it like it's some kind of miracle cure-all when really it's just a quick band-aid that makes things worse down the line. The sticky residue problem is exactly why I stopped using it on my garage door tracks years ago. You end up cleaning off the gunk every few months just to reapply more of the same stuff. Dry silicone is the way to go for anything that slides or rolls. Once you switch you'll never go back to that blue and yellow can for those jobs.
