Just realized how much easier it is to pull wire now than when I started

I was rewiring a basement in a 1920s house in Tacoma last week, and the old stuff was all that stiff, cloth-covered cable that fights you every inch. The new stuff we use now just glides through the studs, and I got the whole run done in maybe two hours. Did the materials change that much, or is it just that I know better tricks now?

The Romex we get now has that slick PVC jacket that just slides. Back in the 90s, the stuff was way stiffer (almost like it had more tar in the insulation, maybe). I bet the change in materials is at least half of it, because even a new guy can pull that modern stuff without as much fight.

Oh wow, that actually makes so much sense! I always just blamed my own bad technique when I struggled with old wire. But you're right, the jacket on the new stuff is way more slippery. It really does just glide through studs compared to the stiff old cable.
