Watching a demo at the Edmonton Home Show made me rethink my floor plan

I saw a builder cut a simple opening in a non-load wall to connect the kitchen and living room. It cost maybe $500 for the beam and work, but it made the whole main floor feel twice as big. Has anyone else done something small that made a huge difference in an older Edmonton house?

Honestly, that sounds like a huge headache waiting to happen. In my old place, opening up a wall meant dealing with a ton of hidden electrical wires that had to be rerouted. The final bill was way over $500 once we paid the electrician. Sometimes that closed-off feeling is cozy, and you lose a ton of cupboard and wall space.

Seriously, it's just a wall. People act like it's some life changing renovation.
