My entire Tuesday got derailed by a single email from HR
I walked into work last Tuesday thinking it would just be another boring day, but then HR sent out a company-wide email saying our health insurance provider was changing in 30 days with no warning. Turns out the CFO made a call to save $50,000 a year and didn't tell anyone until the contract was signed. Has anyone else had a surprise benefits change drop on them like that?

Does the CFO work for free or something... Business decisions have to be made somewhere and $50,000 is a lot of money that could go to other things like raises or keeping people employed. People get real upset about insurance switching but half the time the new plan is basically the same or even better and nobody even reads the coverage details to find out. Maybe the company should have given more notice but honestly HR is always terrible at communicating and that's not really the CFO's job. If the old provider was costing that much extra someone had to make the hard call eventually.

It's just classic "save money now, let future-us deal with the fallout" thinking, same way companies quietly shrink bag sizes at the grocery store without changing the price.
