I think most people overdo it with self-leveling compound on floors
Everyone says to pour self-leveler on any uneven subfloor, but I just did a 300 sq ft living room where a good old fashioned belt sander and some plywood patches did the trick for $40 instead of $300 in compound. What do you do when the uneven spots are less than a quarter inch deep?

...man, you're speaking my language. I did my basement floor last year with some 1/4 inch plywood and a belt sander, cost me maybe $50 total and it's dead flat. Those high spots I just knocked down with the sander and patched the low spots with cut pieces of the same plywood, no need for a whole bag of leveler that just dries too fast anyway.

Did a belt sander on my kitchen floor and accidentally made a nice little low spot for my fridge.
