Heads up about those cheap laminate floor planks from the big box store

I put down about 400 square feet of that stuff in my living room and hallway three years ago. It looked great for the first year, honestly. But by month 18, the planks in the high-traffic path to the kitchen started to show serious wear. The printed image layer is wearing off, leaving these dull gray patches. The locking system on a few edges has also started to fail, creating tiny gaps that catch dirt. I clean it with the recommended cleaner, no harsh stuff. The difference between the area under my couch and the walkway is like two different floors now. I'm already pricing out a replacement with a better wear layer. Has anyone else had this happen with a specific brand, and what did you switch to?

Go for vinyl plank next time, way tougher.

Honestly I used to think vinyl plank looked cheap. Then my friend put it in her kitchen with three big dogs. Two years later it still looks brand new, no scratches at all. Tbh that totally changed my mind on it.
